Academic Libraries - Implementation Checklist

For academic libraries, integration into your discovery platform (Step 2) will be the largest driver of Third Iron usage. Contact us at support@thirdiron.com for help with any of these integration options. We can set up a time to walk through the options with you step by step.

If it has been more than a year since you last connected with us in a live meeting, either in person or online, we highly recommend that you schedule a training session with one of our Outreach Librarians. We will do an in depth review of your account to ensure that you are maximizing your Third Iron services and that all of your products are fully implemented to your satisfaction.

Step 1: Configure holdings exports to Third Iron

Ensure your holdings are automated or being routinely sent to Third Iron. If you are a new customer, this was almost certainly taken care of right when you got started, but if you have had Third Iron services for a while, it's worth revisiting to see if you are still manually providing holdings when your system now supports automation! Check this list of tutorials here arranged by holdings system to confirm everything is setup correctly for you. We recommend updating holdings on a monthly basis.

Step 2: Discovery platform integration

LibKey Discovery is supported by all major discovery systems. Step by Step Instructions for each system are available here: Discovery System Integration

Step 2.5: Integrate LibKey Discovery / LibKey API into custom bento/custom discovery layer

LibKey is very developer friendly and the API Documentation is easy to use.

Step 3: Integrate LibKey Link into popular databases

Step 4: Integrate LibKey.io into your library website and/or LibGuide

LibKey.io is a a DOI/PMID fulltext lookup tool that makes it easy for users to quickly check to see if the full text of an article is available from the library or via Open Access sources.
